| 12.09.2008, 19:23 Uhr jtr Posts: 2924 Punkte: 0 Legend | There is always an interesting story to an adventurer. And so there is one for Leanija Everstride, an Elven warlock hailing from Queldanil in the ever-hidden Hinterlands of Eastern Lordaeron. She wasn't always a warlock though, bound to dark, shadowy demonology. As with most of the elves, it never even occurred to her to give herself to demons nor their magic. At first she was raised and trained by her brethren in the ways of the hunter as most inhabitants of the small village of Queldanil. One would always be looked upon with a queer eye if one would choose not to become a beast-master or blade-wielding warrior. Those Elven knights were surely also welcome there, as the threat of nearby living trolls was never fully eradicated and ever-looming in the minds of the citizens. But mostly it was a hunter's lodge which could hardly be missed as Queldanil was surrounded by nothing but nature. A few paces west lay the Dwarven city of Aerie Peak and with its Gryphon Lords the Elves always had good ties. But apart from that, the Hinterlands were mostly covered with lush green forests. The story of Leanija involves also the story of another Elf although she is, however, not of the same kin. She is a Dark Elf from the far away continent of Kalimdor, in the West. Leadora was her name. For millennia she, who was immortal by nature, lived peacefully in the mighty forest of Ashenvale, where the night always loomed under the great trees and above all stood the mighty world tree Nordrassil, whose powers vanished when the demonic Burning Legion invaded the land and laid siege over Kalimdor and the land of the Dark Elves. Leadora was one of the wardens of Illidan Stormrage, who was being held prisoner deep under Nordrassil, banished for his betrayal by his own brother Malfurion. The head of the wardens was the vengeful Maiev Shadowsong, a cousin of Leadora. One day, close to the Great Invasion, the High Priestess of the Godess Elune, Tyrande Whisperwind, came to free Illidan, hoping his powers could help the Elven population to evade extinction. But Tyrande paid a price, as she and her sentinels slaughtered most of the wardens. Leadora however, withdrew without a fight, not willing to lay a blade on her own brethren and let Tyrande have her way. She even got a brief explanation from her and tried to understand what it meant. For nearly ten thousand years Illidan was being kept in his dark chamber and now he was being released to help against evil -- this was a fact Leadora could not understand at first, as she was repeatedly told by Maiev that Stormrage was pure evil himself. As this was obviously not the case, Leadora stepped down from her duty as warden and went on to help Tyrande and Malfurion fighting alongside Illidan to confront the Legion. She was present at the Battle for Nordrassil and one of the twenty-five heroes who, along with Malfurions spirits of nature and the Sacrifice of the Dark Elves' immortality, were able to defeat the demon Archimonde, the Defiler. In the meantime Maiev came back to her strength, defeated but not beaten although she lost her senses and forgot her duty as well as her honor. Her aim was now to track down Illidan and to kill him. She bade Leadora to come aid her, and reluctantly Leadora agreed. She was, after all, also a Shadowsong, and family bonds still mean a lot to the Dark Elves. With a band of sentinels and wardens, they followed him to Lordaeron where it was that the ever-growing blood lust of Maiev was not only overwhelming her, but she also failed to keep it a secret and openly suggested murder. Most of her fighters turned away with disgust and went their own ways. Illidan later managed to escape to Outland, the remains of the Orcish home world Draenor, which, in turn, had been ripped into pieces, by demonic magic, years ago. There he chose the Black Temple of Karabor as his hide-out. He would soon become hunted again, but this did not concern the two Leas too much. Now being in a wholly new world for her, Leadora started wandering astray discovering the world of the Eastern Kingdoms. Soon she started noticing the humans, who met her with distrust, as they never met Dark Elves before. After she passed Aerie Peak, where the doors and windows of the Dwarven stronghold were kept shut as she walked by - the stout folk there had never seen a Dark Elf before, either - she finally found Queldanil and - Leanija, the young hunter initiate, who was not fully satisfied with the way her life was progressing. Being trained like so many of her ancestors before her was not really to her liking as she was born an adventurous type, but not many of the High Elves ever were venturing outside their kingdom Quelthalas or their villages in Lordaeron. She sought something exciting and new and Leadora was also seeking a new purpose in life as the world she had known for so long was now changing. She also was no longer immortal and therefore eager to see more of the world before death would inevitably befall her. The two became friends almost immediately, and even if the other Elves met Leadora with a certain amount of distrust (there had been deep grudges between the two kins over millennia), she was accepted and allowed to stay in their village. She did not impose on the villages hospitality for long, however, since she had a new idea in her mind that she wanted to pursue and she took Leanija with her. Ever since her meeting with Tyrande, Leadora admired the skills of the High Priestess and wished very much to learn the ways of Elune, too. In the Tranquil Forest of the Hinterlands, and with an ambitious young friend at her side, she finally realized where her path would lead her. Leanija also chose to become a priestess, even though she knew little of healing skills. Having met the Prince of the High Elves, Kaelthas Sunstrider before, Tyrande granted Leanija entry to their city of Darnassus, hidden in the new, massive world tree Teldrassil, a one-time feat for a High Elf, not to be seen again. And whilst the older Lea embraced the ways of the Priest, the younger was not so happy with the new teachings and her treatment, as many Dark Elves still saw in her those of her brethren who called the first Invasion of the Legion onto Earth and although ten thousand years had past, some still could not forgive or forget. This saddened both friends, but they knew they had to part. Leanija had troubles of her own now, too. The undead Scourge led by Prince Arthas Menethil laid siege on the Elven kingdom of Quelthalas, and even though she had not often been there, she still saw it as her duty to help fight the undead. The mission however, was not successful and Leanija felt very impaired in many ways. She felt useless as she was nearly of no help to her people. But nevertheless she found hope when Kaelthas, their prince, brought the magic-addicted High Elves a new source of power after their beloved Sunwell had been destroyed by the Scourge. Now this was something they had never thought of, but it was deemed necessary - the usage of demonic magic. In that vein, Leanija developed an interest for demon mastery and warlock magic. Even if magic was never important or particularly interesting to her, now she realized how strongly her people were bound to it and how much she needed it herself. Some of the surviving elves suffered extreme discomfort from the withdrawal and became the so-called Wretched. This was what some called the Sundering of the High Elves, as ninety percent of their total population vanished and another ninety percent of the survivors started using demonic magic and called themselves Blood Elves from then on. The remaining elves stayed the way they were, mostly hunters and warriors with little to no need for magic at all, and those who wanted too much joined the ranks of the Wretched, hopeless and lost. The same time that Leanija started using demonic magic and progressively became a warlock, Leadora started shifting from the traditional ways of the priest and set her first steps into the world of shadow magic. A great power and also a great trap lay in the ways of the shadow, but both did not fear it. Most Blood Elves subsequently joined the Savage Horde, following disappointment with the Great Alliance which proved useless for them during the Scourge raids. Leanija on the other hand felt utter disgust to join forces with tribes and races she felt had to be viewed as evil and to be greeted only with warfare. But she was an outcast now in the eyes of the High Elves, as those who clinged to old alliances did not wish to have users of demonic magic among their ranks. They could not only feel it, having to get used to meditate as an antidote to their addiction, they were able to sense magic, and above all the Fel Magic Leanija was now used to bolster her powers. As she was getting stronger every day, her place in the Elven society seemed to be slipping away. So she desperately sought a home with the Blood Elves in the rebuilt city of Silvermoon even accepting the fact to see the odd ambassador of the Horde walking through the lanes and streets there. Leadora did not mind it as much, having herself embraced the ways of Shadow and using it regularly against mighty foes. She was also often accompanied in her journeys by her younger friend, not considering politics and factions at all. In the end, friendship meant more than these trivial things -- at least to them. Leanijas own sister Taela, who resides in the Alliance outpost called Allerian Stronghold in the midst of Terrokar Forest in the Outland, cannot look into the eyes of what she calls a demon-servant. The fall-out of love, the sundering of the Elven people runs deep and the scars of the war might be uncurable. However, it should be noted that Leanija counts herself still as a member of the Great Alliance of Humans, Dwarves and Elves, even though she is no longer welcome in their cities.

Once I was like my brother... once I held the holy light in my heart and was a proud member of the silver hand. Once I defended my country, my people, my family and my faith. Together with my brother I fought side by side against evil enemies, dragons, elementals and old gods. Nothing was safe from our faith and our weapons. But when the scourge arrived, the day that should change my life, was very near. When we entered the black citadelle Naxxramas together to fight the scourge in their territory, we were sepparated during the battle. I saw him fighting against the masses of undeads, his faith was strong and it burned in his eyes as he fought with the power of light. He screamed my name and in his fury he killed more undeads than anyone else. But back then it was already too late for me. We were sepparated and I was captured not by the scourge. I think it was a miracle that they didn’t kill and eat me alive immediately! Instead they tossed me in a so called body wagon. A wagon that feeds the scourge catapults with infected dead bodies. But this one transported me and some other badly injured people of different races to another black citadelle which would become my home: Acherus. In Acherus, which was a training base for new Deathknights, I was tortured. They ripped my belly open and pulled everthing inside out. The pain was excruiating! But I didn’t die, instead they healed my wounds, but only to do the same over and over again. I was tortured for months or years, I don’t know. They burned my eyes with hot iron bars and replaced my eyes again. They severed my spine from my body and I went through hell. They had opened my head and destroyed parts of my brain. I forgot my brother, my family, my beloved wife and my origins. Everthing. After that I was trained to be a Death Knight. I heard voices who told me what to do and I followed and obeyed. My memories of that day are incomplete and fragmentary. I know I destroyed an Alliance town. I slayed everyone, men, women and children. I destroyed so many lives that I can’t count them. Years passed and I only traveled from place to place, from massacres to nightmares. Urged by the voices, I have done all these things. One day, it was in my homeland of Khaz Modan, I slaughtered a female dwarf in a lonley house. Far away from any semblance of civilisation she lived alone in this cold land. I just killed her without any feelings, without thinking. I didn’t know... After so many years the day came when we got freed of the voices. Everyone knows the story about the fight at the Lights Chappell. When we were divided from the Lich King. Lord Morgraine himself got his free will back, just like the other Death Knights who were bound to Acherus at the time. And there I was. Confused, alone, witout memories of my past. So I wandered around Azeroth witout a destination. What should I do now? What have I done? Years passed and as I wandered in the wasted lands of Desolace I was captured again. Without a warning several demons attacked me. I killed three of them within a second, without hesitation, without thinking, just a relfex. But it seems that for every demon I slayed two more appeared and attacked me. So I was in captivity again, this time by demons whose language I didn’t understand. After days I was brought in a huge cave, full of demons wanting to kill me. But nothing like that happended. I was brought to a dreadlord I didn’t know. And still I don’t know what they gave me that day, but I started to speak in the language of demons. It hurt me to hear my own voice talking in these foreign words. And the demons were listening. I only can imagine what I have told them but I think I told them what I knew. Everything. From the deepest corners of my memories I spoke about my past. I never thought I saw something like that in an expression of a demon's face but actually all these demons, born in fire and residents of their own cruel world, were afraid. Afraid of what they heard from me that I didn’t understand. And while I was talking the memories came back to me with their full power of thruth. Sad truth. After hours of talking in that strange language I was exhausted. And without a warning I fainted away into darkness... When I woke up in that cave, I was alone exept one little demon imp who’s bouncing and dancing while I regain my senses. Not only I regained my senses, I also got my memories back. My brother, the enemies, Naxxramas, the scourge, the Lichking, the slaughtering and my loved wife , waiting for me in our little house in Khaz Modan… The pain of thruth, of what I had done almost killed me. I didn’t want to live anymore. I want to stop this torture… The little demon told me that the demons already knew I was coming, that they listened to my story, that they were afraid of keeping me here and that I shall go away. Why they knew I was coming…I don’t know, he wouldn’t tell me. He told me also that they gave me a new name: Anankhimel , that means “the fallen” in their demon language. And that they are sure, that I’m important to the future and Azeroth. The told me where my brother is, that he is still alive… And here I am, Anankhimel , brother of Naudin who entered Northrend to defeat the Lich King who had done all that to me. And I will follow him, I will stepp to his side, do everthing to regain some dwarfism. Till I suffer for my acts, I will fight again against all the evil in this world…. To be continued....
